The training described below is typically provided and presented by the Unit.
Some of the actual hours of training can be accomplished by the individual using self study methods, watching videos, and so on. At times, the Aircraft Systems training will apply to multiple aircraft, for example the radial engine. When that happens, the time spent on that topic will count towards all the aircraft that have that system in common. Also, the cockpit procedures training is usually accomplished with an instructor check pilot during the pilot proficiency check.
2025 training resources and details
All initial and recurrent pilots and essential flight crew members will receive at least 6 hours of CRM/ORM training. CRM/ORM training will be performed in a classroom or with virtual media in a group setting. CRM/ORM training will be documented on the CAF Form 602. There will be no exceptions or waivers issued for this requirement.
All initial and recurrent pilots and essential flight crew members will receive emergency egress and first aid training for their aircraft.
Initial and recurrent pilots and flight engineers of all multi-engine and complex single-engine aircraft will receive a minimum of 6 hours of aircraft systems training plus 2 hours of cockpit procedures training to include, but not limited to:
Aircraft Systems training to cover all systems including, but not limited to, airframe, flight controls, landing gear, engines, propellers, hydraulics, electrical, instrumentation, and avionics
Aircraft Cockpit Procedures Training will include, but not be limited to, normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.
Initial and recurrent pilots of all other single-engine aircraft will receive a minimum of 3 hours of aircraft systems training appropriate to their specific aircraft plus 2 hours of Cockpit Procedures, including normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.
Pilots and Flight Engineers' initial and recurrent training will include an open-book Aircraft Systems and Limitations exam and a closed-book Critical Action Procedures (memory items) exam.
Systems Exam with a minimum of 40 questions
Critical Action Procedures test (memory items) - minimum of 2.
Exams are to be developed and maintained at the unit level.
Exam results must be retained at the Unit for at least 2 consecutive years.
